Before the project
When I found out we were making our own pajama pants I got so excited. It would be my first time making my own garment. A week before the start of the project, me and my mom went to Joann fabrics to get fabric, elastic, and thread. As soon as I walked in the store I got extatic. It was filled with tons of different patterns, destures, and designs of fabric. As soon as we found all of the flannel it was so hard to make a desicion. I ended up going with this white and black plaid fabric so that it would go with any top I would want to wear.
Measuring and sizing
As soon as we all had our materials to start, we all measured eachother. It was very interesting because we had to go in all sorts and positions and places to make sure every measurement was accurate. the class after that, we started on our sizes and cut outs. We used our measurements to select a size, best for us, and then we traced the line of the size we were on the cut out paper.
Cutting out the fabric
As soon as we all had our cut outs ready, we got with out table mate and pined both of our cut out paper to our fabric. This was kind of hard to do because we had to make sure the measurements were perfect so that the pants would fit right. As soon as we pinned everything, it was time to cut it out!! When I was cutting, I had to concentrate so that I would not cut over the paper. After I cut the fabric, I unpinned the paper off of the fabric and was left with two pieces of fabric that were the exact same.
The croch seam
The next class, we did our croch seam!! First, we made one piece of fabric inside out and the other, pretty sides out. Then, we put the pretty side out piece inside the inside out piece so that the pretty sides were facing each other. Then, we sewed the curved edges together and surged them after. Lastly, we took one of the pant legs out of the other one to see what looked like pants!! This was such an exciting moment because I realized I was doing it right and my pants were coming together, and I was so proud of myself.
The elastic casing
After the crotch seam, we did our elastic casing. First, we folded the waist 1 1/2 inches and then an additional 1/4 inches. Next, we sewed the fold leaving 1 inch open. Then, we put the elastic through, sewed the elastic, and then sewed the open gap of the fold.
Heming
By now, we were ready to hem our pants. Since I was making good time, I wanted to try making them jogger style, which is doing elastic casing a the bottom. First, I folded both legs 1 1/2 inches and an additional 1/4 inches. Next, I sewed the folds leaving 1 inch open. Then, I put the elastic through, sewed the elastic, and then sewed the open gap of the fold. I did this process to both legs.
The tag
the last thing to do was the tag!! First, I cut a rectangle out of my left over fabric. Next, I sewed one side of the rectangle to the inside of the back. Then, I surged the edges and I was done!!
