During the passed few days, many people have been buzzing about The Weeknd's spectacular halftime show. i do have to say, i love his music and loved his show. i know my sister in particular is a big fan of his and greatly enjoyed it as well. Enough about the performance, i'm here to talk about The Weeknd's spectacular outfit. A lot of people's opinions are very controversial about the costumes in the halftime shows. The clothing is what brings the performance together on whole new level and it wouldn't be the same without a jaw dropping look. i want to say that i thought his look was perfect for his performance. i personally would have added more to it, but it fit his whole concept so well. Outfit Breakdown: embroidered red jacket, black poplin shirt, wool pants, and black leather tie & gloves. This whole outfit was custom made by Givenchy creative director, Matthew M. Williams. It was handmade and took over 250 hours to make. Can i just say WOW. Can i marry that jacket? Anyways, i overall loved his outfit and thought it was perfect for the show. This years NYFW was a little bit different. I liked that i got to see all of the cool videos of the clothing rather than watching a live fashion show. One of the collections that stood out to me was Bronx and Banco. As soon as I saw the front page I knew I had to watch it. Every single garment was made perfectly and was amazing. I could tell right away that Bronx and Banco's theme was clothing for tropical weather. They did a great job fitting their garments for the chosen climate. A pattern I noticed was a lot of silk and flowy fabric. Silky, flowy fabric is a very popular choice when making tropical clothing and I thought they executed it beautifully. Another pattern I saw was a lot of gold and warm tones. This is also great for tropical clothing because warm tones represent heat, just like cool tones represent cold. Overall, I loved Bronx and Banco's 2020 collection and I am so excited to see next year's!! Barbies have been the best selling toy for around 60 years now. There is a lot to the the little figure and what, where, and who she comes from. Way before Barbie was even an Idea there was Ruth Handler, Eliot Handler, and their 2 children. Ruth became the president of the toy company Mattel around 1942. Ruth wanted something new but didn't know what. It was one morning that she saw her daughter pay with paper dolls and putting different clothes on them. Ruth thought it was an amazing idea and started doing research. Her and Eliot found a similar doll to her idea in Germany called Lili. Ruth then bought the rights to Lili and began her work. It took a long time to get her idea perfect. Ruth wanted a women doll that made girls feel like they could be anything they wanted to be. On March 19, 1959, Mattel released the Barbie doll which was named after Ruth's daughter, Barbara. Some years later the Ken doll was released which was named after Ruth's son, Kenneth. Barbie's look and figure progressively changed with the time. Mattel designers started traveling to collections in Paris, Milan, and London to study haute couture. As Barbie got more and more popular, big designers started working on her wardrobe such as Burberry, Calvin Klein, Versace, Armani, and even Vivian Westwood. Today, over 100 million yards of fabric have been devoted to Barbie clothes, and more than 1 billion pairs of shoes have been designed for Barbie. I think Barbie is such a great example of a powerful, and fashionable, women and I am so excited to see what comes next. Sources: Simpson, M. (2019, August 07). History of Barbie. I have never taken a class like this one and I cant even explain to you how much I enjoy it. If you did not know already, this unit was on color! Before this unit, I did not even realize how much color affects our fashion. Now I know so many different ways to style outfits or anything really using different colors! The first thing we did was painting the color wheel. Since Ms. Pfister was not there that day, she thought painting our own color wheel would be perfect. I had so much fun mixing all of the colors and painting them on the wheel. It was just like I was in elementary school again! So much fun! That day, we also took notes on different color schemes. It was so interesting to learn all of the different terms and styles of the different schemes. The next thing we did was our color schemes project. In this project we had to use all of the color schemes and create different outfits with them. For this project, I worked with my table mate, Mimi. She did three color schemes and I did four. The colors schemes I chose were the monochromatic scheme, The neutral scheme, the accented neutral scheme, and the triadic color scheme. They were all so fun to put together and I enjoyed this project a lot. This is my accented neutral color scheme! This one was probably my favorite and I loved making it!! To finish off the unit, we did the personal coloring project! In the project, we had to find out what seasonal colors look the best with our features. I got classic autumn because those colors look best with my dark brown hair and light brown eyes. The second part of the project was to make a mood board. We had to put a selfie of ourselves, our palet, and clothes that go with our color palet. It was definently my favorite project of this unit. This is my mood board! I think classic autumn fits me perfectly!
Overall, This was a great unit and I had so much fun. |
